R-O-B Walls
A new generation of brick wall
R-O-B is a joint project between Gramazio & Kohler, Architecture and Digital Fabrication, ETH Zurich and Keller AG Ziegeleien.
Digital manufacturing enables the fusion of draft data with construction materials. The data generated when designing components can be used directly in production. The use of digitally controlled production systems is, however, prerequisite. Our mobile industrial robot (R-O-B-Unit) builds clinker or facing brick walls with a new and unique appearance!
The R-O-B-Unit is able to produce precision brick elements regardless of location. The new technology allows the production of freely selectable motifs whilst maintaining a high degree of component stability thanks to modern adhesives. R-O-B unites the advantages of pre-fabrication – versatile manufacturing with consistently high precision and product quality – with the advantages of short distances and the option of «Just-in-time production» on the construction site.
